Congregational Spotlight: Lake Nokomis Presbyterian Church
Lake Nokomis Presbyterian Church is an intergenerational church of about 130 members, serving the neighborhoods of South Minneapolis and surrounding areas. Sunday morning worship makes full use of lay participation, often incorporating drama, visual arts, and music. Educational classes encourage students of all ages to explore the intersections between life and faith, with a solid grounding in Biblical studies and Reformed theology. Service incorporates individual interests, ranging from delivering meals and supporting the food shelf to flood relief and international partnerships. Known in the Presbytery for its quiet spirit of inclusiveness, Lake Nokomis makes its mark in the neighborhood through a pioneering partnership with the adjacent public elementary school, and through candlelight and soft music during Advent and Lenten meditation services. A congregation with strong lay leadership and full integration of children and youth into the life of the church, Lake Nokomis is served by The Reverend Kara Root.
